#YOLOLO & #YOLOLA ONLY LIVE ONCE!

I am a certified lola and lolo’s girl. I spent half of my life with my grandparents in Lucena City, Quezon province until I finished high school.

My fond memories of Inana (means lola/grandma), who’s a great cook and Amama (means lolo/grandpa), a respectable policeman,  was watching movies at Polaris every weekend. Oh, how they love action films! That’s the reason why I am so familiar with movies of Clint Eastwood, Silvester Stallone plus not to mention, Sean Connery.  And yes, our very own legendary action star, Fernando Poe, Jr.

Up to now, their classic movies remind me of my Amama, who passed away five years ago due to cancer. Polaris, our favorite moviehouse have long been closed.

We are now taking care of Inana, who turned 80 years old last March. Thanks, God, my Inana is still healthy and could still walk on her own (and even cooks our favorite delicacy). Thanks, God too, Polaris may have been gone, but we now have SM City Lucena, where we watched the recent Stallone’s movie The Expendables…with my Inana.

Grandparents. They’re the quiet yet amused voice that says yes when our parents say no. They never forget a birthday, even if sometimes, they forget how to spell your name. And for some unfathomable reason, the meals they cook are always the best. Win or lose, they always have a warm smile and comforting hug waiting just for us. Their presence keeps us grounded, because they represent our roots. They remind us of home.

Grandparents have a special place in everyone’s hearts that a day was declared just for them! This September 7, make your grandparents feel loved, the way they’ve done for you all life.

SM Supermalls believes in the value of family, so they’ve lined up special treats and activities that you and your grandparents can enjoy, in honor of their special day:

BLESSED DAY

A family that prays together, stays together. Bring lolo and lola to mass at an SM mall on September 7. There will be a special blessing for grandparents right after the ceremony. Before hitting shops and having fun, say a little prayer, and thank the Lord for putting such loving elders in your life.

  1. Grandparents’ Day is so cool! My grandparents passed away when I was still really young, so I really envy those people who had grandparents to communicate with now.. You know, sometimes, you need someone to side you when your parents are against your decision 😛

  2. My Grandma died when I was 16 🙁 My fondest memory of her was watching “Soap Operas” and ” The Price is Right” when I was on Holiday. I wish she could have passed on more traditions

  3. My grandpa and grandma did not really go out with us when I was growing up. They were part of the very conservative generation who only stayed at home. We only saw them during family occasions like holidays.

  4. This post made me miss my departed grandparents even more. It’s so so so so important to love them while they’re still with us and we really should hold on to them with all we’ve got! 😀

  5. Oh wow. You are so lucky tostill have grandparents. I saw this in SM Mall too last Saturday.. I hope that there’s another cherished moment you had with your grandma todAy. 😉

  6. good to hear that you spend quality time with your old folks. I am too is a lolo, but my 2 apo (grandchild) are just 6 and 1 1/2 years old. They can’t accompany me and their lola if ever we decided to attend dance parties.

  7. I still have my grandmother who I visit or call once a week. She and my mum are not close so I’m basically her closest family member! You’re right about grandma’s cooking, it’s great! But her age is catching up with her and she sometimes forgets her recipes but that’s fine 🙂

  8. it is good to know that we know celebrate this special day to give honor to the grandparents. i was not able to experience the love of my grandparents but it was my mama’s uncles who spoiled me + my siblings when we were younger. i only hope my son was able to meet my parents so they can shower them with affection, unfortunately, my parents passed on a few years before the little man was born, but i know they are always looking down on us from the heavens…

  9. I love the names you have for them. It sounds so melodious. I have loving memories of my grandparents and I’m glad they have a special day too.

  10. This is the second Grandparent’s day that my lola isn’t with us. It’s sad but I know that she is in a better place now. Glad to know that SM celebrates this event to keep our grandparents feel appreciated.
