How to make Sardines Extra Special during Quarantine?

In just a few days, we are completing a month long homecation. And as we all know, the enhanced community quarantine due to the pandemic coronavirus disease or COVID-19 has been extended up to April 30.

It’s harder for moms to prepare a meal in this situation due to limited budget and food stock. But I am sure we all have SARDINES in our cabinet or even from relief goods distributed by the local officials or the government.

Actually, sardines is a common canned goods in the household, but did you know, we can make it more special and nutritious by adding vegetables?

Here are some healthy Sardines menu I did during the quarantine period.

Ginisang Sardinas na may Bunga ng Malunggay

I. Ginisang Sardinas na may Bunga ng Malunggay (Sauteed Sardines with Moringa Pods)

Recipe:

  • 1 can Sardines
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 tomato
  • 4 Moringa Pods
  • Salt and Pepper

Procedure:

  • Add oil in the pan
  • Saute garlic, onion and tomato
  • Add the Moringa Pods
  • Mix the pods until tender
  • Add the sardines
  • Add salt and pepper to taste
  • Serve
Ginisang Sardinas na may Upo

II. Ginisang Sardinas na may Upo (Sauteed Sardines with Bottle Gourd)

Recipe:

  • 2 cans Sardines
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 tomato
  • 1 medium sized Upo (Bottle Gourd) sliced into small pieces
  • Water
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

III. You can be creative in cooking Sardines. Why not mix it with alugbati, sayote, repolyo or amplaya. Others I know, want it with sotanghon too.
